We brought label printing in-house so your custom-branded 5 gallon buckets ship in days, not weeks. Here's an inside look at the equipment, the process, and the online design tool that makes it all self-service — no sales calls, no design agency, no waiting.
Takes about 10 minutes. No account needed.
Why We Brought Label Printing In-House
Here's how custom-branded buckets have worked in the packaging industry for decades:
- You send your artwork to a packaging supplier
- They send it to a third-party label printer
- The label printer produces your labels and ships them to the supplier
- The supplier applies the labels to your buckets
- The supplier ships the finished product to you
That's three companies, at least two shipping legs, and a whole lot of waiting. Most of the 4-6 week lead time that's "standard" in custom packaging isn't about the printing itself — it's about the handoffs between companies who are all juggling their own production schedules.
We decided to cut out the middleman entirely.
We invested in a full digital label printing and finishing line — printer, laminator, die-cutter, and label applicator — and installed it at our facility in Elberfeld, Indiana. Now when you order custom-branded buckets from us, your labels are printed, laminated, cut, applied, and shipped from the same building. One facility. One team. No handoffs.
The result: Pressure Sensitive label orders ship in 1 week. That's from the moment you finish your design to the moment it's on a truck.
"Bringing label printing in-house was the single biggest thing we could do for our custom packaging customers. We went from being at the mercy of a third-party print shop's timeline to controlling the entire process — design, print, laminate, cut, apply, ship — all under one roof. Turnaround went from weeks to days. For a small business trying to get branded product out the door, that changes everything."

Inside Our Printing Facility: The Full Process
Here's exactly what happens after you submit a custom bucket order — every step performed in-house at our Indiana facility.
Step 1: Digital Printing
Your artwork is printed in full color on our proprietary digital label press — the same technology used by major food and consumer brands. Digital printing means there are no plates to manufacture, no setup fees, and no minimum print runs beyond the label quantity for your order. Every label is printed at high resolution with vibrant, consistent color.
Because it's digital, we can go from approved artwork to printed labels in hours, not days. That's why we can turn around complete orders so fast — there's no tooling step between your design and production.
Step 2: Lamination
Immediately after printing, every label passes through our lamination station. A protective clear film is applied over the printed surface, which does three important things:
- Moisture resistance — labels hold up in wet, humid, or refrigerated environments
- Scratch & scuff protection — labels survive handling, stacking, and warehouse conditions
- UV protection — colors stay vibrant even in direct sunlight or under fluorescent lighting
This isn't optional — we laminate every single label we produce. Your brand has to look sharp the day you receive it and six months later sitting on a shelf.
Step 3: Precision Die-Cutting
Once laminated, the label sheet moves to our proprietary digital die-cutter. The blade carriage precisely cuts around each individual label — no manual trimming, no inconsistent edges. Every label in your run is cut to the exact same dimensions.
Digital die-cutting also means we can handle any label shape without ordering custom dies. Round, rectangular, contoured — it's all controlled by software.
Step 4: Separation & Roll Finishing
After cutting, the finished labels are separated from the waste matrix (the excess material between labels) and wound onto rolls for application. This step transforms a sheet of cut labels into production-ready rolls that feed into our label applicator or can be shipped for manual application.
Step 5: Label Application & Shipping
If you've selected our label application service ($0.50/unit), the finished rolls go directly to our label applicator — a stainless steel conveyor system that applies labels to buckets consistently and precisely. Your buckets come off the line fully branded and ready to use.
If you prefer to apply labels yourself, we ship the finished rolls alongside your buckets. Either way, everything leaves from the same facility.
Start to finish under one roof: Design → Print → Laminate → Cut → Apply → Ship. 1 week for Pressure Sensitive orders. No outsourcing. No handoffs. No waiting.
Pressure Sensitive vs. Heat Transfer — Which Should You Choose?
| Pressure Sensitive | Heat Transfer | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | High-quality adhesive label applied to bucket surface | Label permanently bonded using heat — becomes part of the bucket |
| Minimum order | 60 units | 792 units |
| Turnaround | 1 week | 3-4 weeks |
| Printed where | In-house (Elberfeld, IN) | Production partner |
| Durability | Excellent — laminated, moisture & UV resistant | Superior — permanent, seamless, won't peel |
| Look & feel | Professional label on bucket surface | Seamless — looks printed directly on the bucket |
| Best for | Short runs, fast turnaround, seasonal designs, testing new branding | High volume, permanent branding, premium finish |
| Self-apply? | Yes (or we do it for $0.50/unit) | N/A — applied during production |
Our recommendation: If you're ordering for the first time, testing a new design, or need buckets fast — go Pressure Sensitive. You'll have branded buckets in your hands in about a week. If you're scaling up, ordering regularly, and want the most premium, permanent finish — Heat Transfer is the way to go.
